Its name means Erlik’s lizard. The name is taken from the demon Erlik from the Mongolian mythology. Erlikosaurus were a rare group of the therizinosaur family, which ate mostly plants and had a rear-facing pubic bone unlike other theropods. The forelimbs were well developed and ended in tridactyl hands with large claws that they used to defend themselves and to catch food.
