Itinerary of the Route: From Cala Agulla to Talaia de Son Jaumell
Start: Cala Agulla
The route begins in Cala Agulla, one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca, located in the municipality of Capdepera. From here, we will take a path that goes into a pine forest and takes us away from the tourist area to connect with a wilder landscape.
Climbing the Talaia Trail
As we ascend, the forest begins to clear and more rocky terrain opens up. Here, the slope becomes steeper, but in return, the views of the coastline begin to be spectacular. You can see both Cala Agulla and the neighboring Cala Mesquida, with its crystal clear waters and golden sand.
The trail is well marked and has some steeper sections, so it is advisable to take short breaks to enjoy the scenery. On clear days, it is possible to see the island of Menorca on the horizon.
Arrival at Talaia de Son Jaumell
After approximately 45 minutes of ascent, we arrive at the Talaia de Son Jaumell, an old watchtower built in the 16th century.
The Son Jaumell tower was part of the island’s system of watchtowers, whose function was to warn of the arrival of pirates and other threats. From here, the lookouts sent smoke or fire signals to other coastal towers, creating an efficient communication network at a time when Mallorca was constantly threatened by corsair raids.
Today, the tower is in ruins, but it remains a landmark in the landscape and an excellent natural viewpoint. From the top, the views are spectacular, encompassing the entire coastline of Capdepera, Cala Ratjada, Cala Mesquida and even the Llevant Peninsula.
The Return
To descend, simply take the same way back to Cala Agulla. The descent is faster and allows you to enjoy the views from another perspective.
Tips for Enjoying the Route
